Snoop Dog gained popularity, because of his rapping style.
But now that he is trying to conquer the Reggae world, he wanted to change his screen name into Snoop Lion.
In an interview, Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., said that he was rechristened by Rastafarian priests on a recent trip to Jamaica where he was filmed for a documentary, "Reincarnated".
"I didn't want to be Snoop Dogg on a reggae track ... I wanted to bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion, but I didn't know that until I went to the temple and received the name Snoop Lion from the Nyabingi priest," he said.
Snoop Lion has already been introduced into social media platforms with a single "La La La," along with his album and documentary, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Snoop Dogg, 40, started his career in early 1990's as Snoop Doggy Dogg, but earned a brand name Snoop Dogg.
