UAAP Commissioner explains why Teng was not given free throws

UST Men's Basketball head coach, Pido Jarencio was furious after the UAAP Season 75 game of the finals and said to the reporters that the referees were biased.

The Ateneo won 83-78 taking a 1-0 lead for the best of 3 series of the Finals.

The incident that Jarencio was so furious about is that when the officials didn't give Teng three free throws after he was fouled before the buzzer.

During the PSA Forums,  UAAP Commissioner Ato Badolato acknowledges the complaint of Jarencio, but explained why the officials failed to give Teng the free throws after he was fouled by Ryan Buenafe at .02 left in the clock.

He said while they were reviewing, the crowd was now on court and Jarencio was already fuming mad. "We had to give free throws but the problem is, all the people were already on the court and Coach Pido was fuming mad, confronting the referees while they were on the way to the monitor to find out the situation," he said.

"Had it been a three-point lead, we would have done it. It was a five-point lead, and I think it would be more tedious to remove people and give the foul shots."

But, he pointed that Jarencio was a little off with his claims about the foul given to karim Abdul during the fourth quarter. Badolato said that Karim's elbow caught the body of Kiefer Ravena.

"While the hand of Abdul got all ball, his elbow caught the body of Kiefer. You know, Kiefer is a very good actor, so he managed to get a foul," Badolato said. "There was really a foul, so we can't penalize officials for that."

He also appealed for the people to become more patient and they will do everything to make the in coming games clean.

"I appeal for patience, not only from coaches and players but all fans as well. We'll be doing our utmost best to make sure there will be trouble-free Game 2, or if ever Game 3. Rest assured referees will be on top of the situation; we'll call them as we see it," he vowed, promising that "lapses on the part of the referees, especially in the end game will not be tolerated."
