Chinese officials keep beggars behind bars in a religious event

More than a hundred beggars weer kept by the officials behind bars located at the sidewalk during the Xian Temple Fair in China's Jiangxi province, Beijing News reported.


Below the metal bars is a sign reading "Temporary Rescue Shelter" and behind are beggars of a different ages. The beggars put their bowl outside the bars in front of them in hopes of getting some money.

The netizens hit the organizers from treating the beggars without any respect.

As a response, a local media quoted an officials saying that the beggars were kept behind the detention area to prevent worshipers from getting cheat. The official also noted that they have provided the foods for the beggars and their freedom were not restricted.

The local government also said that the cages were made to protect the beggars from being trampled.  The authorities also added that the beggars are actually from different provinces and traveled just for the event in hopes of getting more money.
