According to reports, the gunmen entered the student housing off-campus of Federal Polytechnic Mubi area and called the student one by one before shooting or slicing their throats. This obviously showed that the gunmen know their targets.
"They were calling out names of their targets in each house they entered, and once the target identified himself, he would be shot dead. We strongly suspect an inside operation," reports said.
Officials suggested that the massacre was related to the recent student elections. But, questions rose as the incident was quite violent leading to the conclusion that the tensions between the mainly Muslim Hausas and predominately Christian Igbos were involved in the vote.
It is confirmed that 19 students from the polytechnic, three students from a health technology school, two security guards and a retired soldier were dead and 15 were wounded.
