Supreme Court issues TRO for the Cybercrime Law

The Supreme Court (SC) issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The news broke at about 2:30 pm, but the office of the SC confirmed this news at around 5 pm.

The TRO is up for 120 days and enjoined the respondents from implementing the Cybercrime Prevention Act. The SC also set the case into oral arguments.

This RO also prohibits the Department of Justice (DOJ), the National Bureau of investigation (NBI) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) from implementing the provisions of the law.

The Malacañang, on the other hand said that they are respecting the decision of the SC.

"The administration will always respect the legal processes that are issued by the court. We would like to take a look at the specifics of the TRO," presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said.
