The Medals of the London Olympics 2012

According to some online reports, the Royal Mint, the producer of Britain's currency is the one chosen to make the medals of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Eight tons of gold, silver and copper were unearthed in the Mongolia and Utah. There are 4,700 medals created.

The gold medal is 140 grams which is 200% heavier than the Beijing's. It is made from the combination of silver, copper and gold plated. This is the most expensive medal in the Olympic history.

British artist David Watkins designed the medals, which depict Nike, the Greek goddess of victory.

The officials of Royal Mint said that officials manually inspected all the medals and a single blemish will lead to rejection.

The 4,700 medals arrived at the Tower of London on July 2 and were kept under a tight security. The Tower of London is home for many prized possession of the country, that's why this is the best place to shelter the medals.
